A Tribute to those Mean Little Ankle Biters

Every single day posted in the comments section on the latest bloody pit bull incident, you will read it:  Chihuahua's are meaner.  They need to ban those nasty little ankle biters. It's a ridiculously silly scapegoat.   So many times, the pit bull owner will say how they never have had a single problem with their Pit Bull, but their Chihuahua will tear your throat out, this after writing in CAPS IT'S ALL HOW YOU RAISE EM!    I would have collected some screenshots of the statements here, but it's actually so pervasive, there's no point in doing that.   It's unfortunately as pervasive and un-newsworthy as pit bulls mauling, especially little tiny ankle biters.  Even those stories don't make the news unless there is something extra-ordinary that happens, such as if the owner of the little yappy ankle biter that was just killed gets a knife and slits the throat of the pibble.  A story like that may be more viral than the mauling of a child, which is also at this point, almost not newsworthy.

If I were a Chihuahua that had to put up with the constant fear of becoming a snack for pibble, or to deal with the inane stupidity of a nutter, I would be grouchy and reactive too.  Chihuahuas deserve better. They are a noble and ancient race, and they deserve to be treated like royalty for their fierce loyalty.  They are the best watch dogs.  Arrive at the doorstep of a Chihuahua, and before you ring the bell,  there will be shrill coloratura trills that would give Beverly Sills a run for her money.

They tremble and explode, because I suspect, there's way too much dog in there for that tiny little body to contain.

When a pit bull wants to be truly frightening, especially to pit bull owners, he will wear his Chihuahua costume.

For more humor about this too oft exploited lame vacuous argument , visit Survivors of Toy Dog Attacks on facebook.

In the mean time,  be nice to Chihuahuas but be sure to keep Bandaids and Bactine on the ready, and always wear thick socks to protect your ankles.

Editorial Cartoon

This little gem dates from 1987.  We haven't yet found anything like this that has a Rottweiler, Doberman, or German Shepherd depicted.  If you do find something, please share it!

Pit Bulls are in the Funny Papers Again!

As The Huffington Post prepares their week long parade of pro-pit bull propaganda puff pieces, a writer from the Canadian newspaper, The Provence, dares to shed some light on some dangerous and bloody myths.

It's the Owners

It's the owners, once more for groaners.

If pit bulls only attack because of negligent ownership, it should be reason enough to regulate them.

GMO Pibbles

They are certainly not one of God's creatures.  They are certainly not "natural".  The answer surely must be, HELL!

Ticking Time Bomb

Stranger than fiction, a pit bull owner walking with a pit bull AND a LIVE HAND GRENADE!  Talk about a double whammy!

elsp-14.JPGJersey City police said a man tried to hand a firefighter a live grenade outside a firehouse at 468 Ocean Ave. in Jersey City on Sept. 9, 2014. Michael Dempsey | The Jersey Journal
A suspected live hand grenade found outside a Jersey City fire house last night ended up there after a man walking two pit bulls tried to hand it to a firefighter, police said.
At around 6:30 p.m., the firefighter told police that a thin man wearing a red hat and walking two large pit bulls approached him outside Jersey City Fire Company 4 at 468 Ocean Ave. and attempted to hand it to him, the report stated.
When the firefighter refused to accept the apparent explosive, the man dropped it on the sidewalk and fled south on Ocean Avenue, police said.

The grenade, which still had its pin attached when it was found by police on the sidewalk in front of the fire house, was later "disposed" of by the Jersey City Emergency Services Bomb Squad, police said.
The firefighter told police the man was about 6 feet tall and was wearing a bluish gray jean jacket, the report stated.

Santiago Rodriguez, who works in the grocery store next to the fire house, was in the store when authorities shut down vehicular and pedestrian traffic in the area while responding to the scare.
"The fire department came in and made us leave," he said. "We didn't see anything. It was very scary."

Chew Toys for Pit Bulls

We all remember when NFL superstar Michael Vick was convicted for dog fighting.  Some smart marketing genius capitalized on making chew toys for dogs, using his likeness.

Take THAT Mr. Vick!

It seems they are not pit bull proof.   I think we need to make chew toys in the likeness of pit bulls for cats and Chihuahuas.

Pit Bulls require something a little chewier, and juicy....

GOOD NEWS!  Yesterday, pit bull advocacy BAD RAP, seeking to improve the maligned image of the pit bull finally admitted that despite the good intentions behind the "Nanny Dog" myth, there is no such thing.   Of course, there is quite a few advocates who claim there is no such thing as a pit bull either. In any case,  we hope other pit bull advocacy groups will follow suit.  Next to add will be "All the man biters were culled", "ATTS temperament test", the very bloody "It's all how you raise 'em", which will lead the way for the "Pit bulls make great family pets".  In the meantime, all you little old ladies who like to prune flowers and go for walks, all you letter carriers  WATCH OUT!  YOU ARE STILL CHEW TOYS!  Oh, and you pit bull owners and advocates, it seems you are too.  Six times more likely to be Chew, Chew, Chew toys!

Political Circus

It seems for quite a while now, the political cartoonist has utilized the image, reputation, and symbol of the pit bull or it's older cousin, the Bulldog,  to illuminate their satire.  Of course, not only is the nature and reputation of the dog...its gripping tenacious and vicious talent useful in creating meaning, but the grotesque physic  needs not much exaggeration to generate a truly humorous effect.    These days, with pit bulls making headlines of their own, it's easy for these humorists to achieve an easy double entendre.

Cesar Milan lamented on this fact, boo hoo hoo hoo....that the pit bull again "victimized" again, being utilized as a symbol for political satire and rhetorical art. He just needs to get over it.  Chihuahuas, Cocker Spaniels and Daschunds have reputations too (being always drug into the conversation about BSL by pit bull advocates) , but as metaphors and similes.... just wouldn't conjure up the same strong images and connotations.

"As I was browsing the news this week, a headline caught my eye: “Romney Takes Pit Bull Approach in Florida.” I looked at Junior and wondered if the journalist meant that Romney was going to become a calm-submissive presence, devoted to the American people. But of course, that was not they meant. They meant that Romney was going to fiercely attack his opponents, or in the journalist’s eyes, act like a pit bull. Seeing pit bulls being referred to in this manner upset me of course, but didn’t surprise me. If any of the candidates running for office think they have image problems, they have nothing on a pit bull."

Boo hoo hoo hoo.
Lament as he may....it's just so funny to put the head of a tenacious politician on the head of a bully dog.  One of the early examples I found was of Teddy Roosevelt. Reportedly, he was an actual pit bull owner, and he did popularize the euphemism of the day, BULLY!   Here's some more of those!

Even our fashionable first lady is not immune to this treatment.   I've seen her morphed into many other critters as well.  No one is immune, save perhaps the children of the president.

Speaking of which...we all waited with great anticipation as our newly elected president made the harrowing choice of just what kind of puppy he would fulfill the promise of a dog to his two daughters.  A pit bull would have made a very interesting choice....

Of course, America opted out of  the famous "pit bull with lip stick" who was the choice for McCain's V.P.  More about her later, Sarah Palin deserves her own blog, lots of charming examples there to discuss.  The whole "pit bull with lipstick" is now a meme that has endured and transformed into a solid place in our lexicon.

Our president is just one of the guys, known for inviting people over for a beer. I wonder if Cesar Milan will be invited for a cerveza, and if would bring over Junior?  Junior and Bo, frolicking on the White House lawn together, imagine!  Nothing to worry about, there are armed guards after all!
Milan is on a roll with his No-Kill agenda, maybe could talk about illegal immigration
or whatever it's called now.

let's wait and see.....

Often, these dogs are used as a symbol of war itself.

The pit bull or bulldog is often used to depict Great Britain, also a popular mascot.
In World War II, Churchill himself, kind of resembled a bulldog, and was even called the Bulldog. I've met many a Bulldog named Winston.

However, Mr. Churchill was a Poodle man.  He liked truly vicious dogs, it seems.

Political Cartoon: U.S. pitbull threatens to raid Ecuador embassy to get Assange

Of course, the pit bull owner and advocate runs the political spectrum.  You have your vegan, tofu eating pit bull advocates who march for awareness, and likely vote Democrat or even the Green Party.  Then you also have your gun rack in the back of the pick-up truck Republicans.   There's people who are anti-BSL and pro gun laws, and vice-versa and every single kind of combination.  There's also tofu eating pro-BSL Democrats.   Animal rights advocate organizations such as The American Humane Society have taken a pro-pit bull stance, ignoring the carnage they cause on other animals but apparently not ignoring the millions of dollars the very slick political agendas can generate.  And very surprising... left wing pro-animal rights organization PETA has taken an anti-pit bull stance.  There are also gun toting pit bull haters who vote either Democrat or Republican.  I believe personally, that guns need to be legal as long as pit bulls roam the streets.  Guns are regulated, by the way, good thing.   It's Fascinating!   Pit bulls can bring people together, let's all sing Kum By Yah.  People of diverse political leanings, brought together by the pit bull.  Those who may never be friends, never be able to stand the company of one another, kinship found because they  have a pit bull, OR they had a bloody pit bull experience.

Then you have your dog rack on the top of the car Republicans.  Isn't it odd they used a pit bull, and not an Irish Setter for this Ad?  I rather suspect, that this was created by one of those tofu eating pit bull advocating Democrats.
