Revenge of the Stick Figures

A facebook time waster spoofing stick figures and good old fashioned Dick and Jane Primary Reader prose went viral, and it was no time until the pit bull advocates created their own little meme to share. 

Of course,  Spike doesn't support B.S.L., he doesn't even think about it one way or another.  He's a dog in this sense.  B.S.L. isn't about the way he looks, it's about the proclivity towards bloody mayhem.   It recalls this old stick figure bumper sticker....

We at the circus wish that pit bull advocates and owners could figure it out.   In the meantime, we've come up with our own spoofs of the spoof, heavy on the hints.   All three are based on true stories,  that have happened countless times. 

Silver Scream Dopplegangers

Pit Nutter Circus has rounded up a number of pibbles who are Dead Ringers (pun intended!) for the most fearsome monsters to haunt the silver screen. 

How we all wish that pit bulls were make-believe monsters, but alas, we know them to be real.  Very real. 

How are pit bulls like vampires? Let us COUNT the ways!

1. Both have Beady eyes and fangs, and wear a fancy necklace of some kind.
2.  Both enjoy dining on the life essence of the living.
3.  Both can be stopped with silver bullets.
4.  Both are enclosed in shrouds, the vampire a physical death shroud, the pit bull, a shroud of mythology.
5.  Both have a magnetic yet morbid and sexual appeal to a certain type of dysfunctional woman. 
6. They both come with their own kind of wooden steak designed to dislodge them from blood letting.






There is almost mythical warning akin to that we find in the story of Pandora's Box in this 1984 movie, about the responsibility that comes with keeping a creature that can be so destructive and dangerous for a companion.  Gremlins are cute and furry little creatures that look like Shih tzus, but don't feed them after midnight, and don't let them get wet.  Pit bull puppies, well, they just grow up. 



Hannibal would likely think pit bulls to be in too poor taste to relish the comparison. It's not hard to think of what he would think of the people who actually keep the official mascot of white trash for a pet and pillow for their spawn.  Or, perhaps he would find the whole concept morbidly delightful.   Here is a little poem in the honor of the concept...it's a dog eat dog world out there. 




The shape shifting demon Gozer assumed the form of the Marshmallow in the film Ghostbusters (1984).  As we can observe, there is a real kind of shape shifting in the world of animal husbandry, it's rather demonic to say the least.





If only every pibble came with a hockey mask, they wouldn't be so scary.  




This killer doll came to life in the classic made for T.V. movie Trillogy of Terror (1975) , when his chain came off.  We find that often, pibble really comes into his own when his chain falls off.  Perhaps like the doll, there is the spirit of an indwelling hunter, and anything in his way becomes his prey.  Perhaps there is wisdom of keeping really big chains on these dogs after all.





If we could only send pit bulls and their enthusiasts to another planet.  Someday.





A pit bull that will not give up after a few warning spikes from Mr. Porcupine is a beast to be feared. This dog is more frightening than Cujo, and not nearly as cute.






Great White Sharks kill and maim less people than do Land Sharks. 

If looks could kill...

LAND SHARK WEEK!

Sharky is a Great name for a pit bull!  Sharky's owner thinks that folks would like to  purchase a Sharky mouse-pad and other merchandize.  Sharky even has his own facebook page!

This is a pit bull shark.  Just kidding, there is no such thing, this is just a silly art project.  It looks like my neighbor's pit bull.

Here's some interesting facts about pit bulls and sharks!

Surgeons often compare the wounds of pit bull attacks with those of  sharks!

According to the International Shark Attack File (ISAF), between 1580 and 2011 there were 2,463 confirmed unprovoked shark attacks around the world, of which 471 were fatal.


According to the  Merritt Clifton report, between 1982 and 2012, there have been  2,235 pit bull attacks that caused serious bodily injury, and 233 deaths.  This is the figure with out mixes and close relatives added in. That would make the domesticated canine more dangerous than a beautiful, mysterious, ancient creature who has been the top of the food chain for millions of years. 

Just like my neighborhood!  Folks, keep your cats inside, there's land sharks on the prowl!

Sadomasochistic Stitches

 Presenting.......Pit Bull advocate and artist Drucilla Pettibone!

Once upon a time, there was a talented, bright, eccentric, lovely and artistic young woman by the name of Jere Alexander.  She has dabbled at being a shelter manager, also in many broad studies in academia, a farmer, a spinner, and an artist.  At some time, she has rechristened herself and adopted a new artistic moniker, Lady Drucilla Pettibone. Very catchy!  She holds "Ragtime séances"....she certainly has a flair for spinning ambient names for her sewing circles! 

She's a quite the case study, and I have to admit, I admire her aesthetics and her industry, and I see the glimmer of a talented and brilliant person.   I do not however, admire the fact that she is a pit bull apologist, and find her actions, and some of the symbols she explores to be highly disturbing.

I wonder if this particular art piece was inspired by the "Sweet Pit Bull" that was shot by a police man after sending five children to the emergency room.....

 She wrote in her blog.....

"Hi there pit bull patriarchs,

I've been sorry to hear that some people are upset about my pit bull stitching because they say it glorifies dogfighting. Although it is hard for me to take that critique seriously, I certainly do not want it to be read it that way. For me, embroidering pit bulls does the work of mourning. It's a lot of stitching and I think about each dog and how they may have lived and died. It takes much longer to embroider a dog than it does to euthanize one. And as we know, they are being euth'd by the truckload in the US daily."

A bite is a most basic form of communication. I mean, dogs don't have hands, or English. What are they trying to say? I've seen dogs bite out of love. Extreme love, and the desire to be close, and to play. My dog bite embroidery is a series of linens that have been "altered" by Kaya, the artist, and then embroidered with phrases that I think she might be feeling while she's shredding my linens. 

Ah yes, the dogman's romance.  I wonder if she has rendered any doggie trysts of a Chihuahua and a German Shepherd on a doily, now wouldn't that be something to see!

After her animal control fiasco, Jere applied for a grant for her "Stitch 'Er Up: Dogfighting Embroidery" collection, which it appears she's a winner!

Here is a collection of more of her work.  She's an artist from the Andres Serrano and  Robert Mapplethorpe school, savvy to know what will set you apart from other artists is controversy and obscene subject matter.  Juxtapose a vintage doily with some dog fighting images, and you have the folk-art equivalent of a plastic crucifix submerged in a bottle of the artist's urine.   I quite frankly think this is desecration of our heritage, these lovely pieces created of the precious idle time by housewives of a by-gone age deserve more respect.

She claims that pit bulls are her favorite breed, but it appears she has recently upgraded to what appears to be a Wolf-Hybrid puppy.  Apparently, pit bulls do not have fur suitable for spinning into yarn. 

She wrote in her blog that she was inspired by a song  by Papa Roach, and she has in turned inspired me.  She has become my nutter goddess muse.

Let me adapt her own thoughts into a  refrain:

For me, embroidering pit bull VICTIMS  does the work of mourning. It's a lot of stitching and I think about each dog-bite victim and how they may have lived and died. . It takes much longer to embroider a dog-bite victim  than it does to euthanize the dog that did the deed.  And as we know, they are being euth'd by the truckload in the US daily. And as we know, there are new pit bull victims daily.
